Open-Source Software and Notices

Palmtop contains open-source software and modified distributions of open-source projects. This page identifies important runtime components. The complete notices shipped with a particular app version control if they differ from this summary.

PRoot

Palmtop for Android uses a modified Android build derived from the Termux PRoot fork to run an Alpine userspace inside the Palmtop app sandbox. PRoot is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. The corresponding Palmtop build recipe and modifications are published in the Palmtop Play packages source repository. The app does not claim that PRoot is a Palmtop-owned project.

Alpine Linux

The Android runtime includes an Alpine Linux minirootfs obtained from the Alpine Linux project. Alpine packages are independently copyrighted and use different open-source licenses. Package-level copyright and license metadata is available in the installed Alpine package database and from the Alpine package index. Alpine Linux is not developed by Palmtop.

Codex

Palmtop Desk is adapted from the OpenAI Codex CLI. The Codex source repository is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Palmtop and Palmtop Desk are independent products and are not endorsed by OpenAI. OpenAI, ChatGPT, and Codex remain the property of their respective owner. Provider authentication and service use remain subject to the provider's own terms and privacy policy.

Palmtop Notebook is adapted from OpenCode. OpenCode is distributed under the MIT License. Palmtop and Palmtop Notebook are independent products and are not endorsed by the OpenCode project.

Additional dependencies

Palmtop also uses Flutter, mobile platform libraries, web-view components, cryptographic libraries, and packages installed in its Linux environment. A release-specific acknowledgements view in the app should contain the complete notices for the binaries distributed with that release. Packages installed later by a user retain their own licenses and notices.
